  • Verity DannOpen or Close

    Experience:

Verity has spent time in water her whole life, competing in Swimming Galas as a child, and swimming regularly for leisure and exercise as a teenager. When she’s not in water, she’s in water! Spending a lot of her adult life exploring water sports such as surfing, wakeboarding, wake surfing and jet skiing, leading her to qualify as a Snorkelling Instructor, and running her own snorkelling club in Tunisia. She has spent the past five years, since graduating from University, travelling and working her way around the world, living in the Arctic Circle, North Africa and Australia. It’s in Australia, where she qualified with ASCTA as a swimming instructor, allowing her to work with babies as young as three months, all the way up to adults training for swimming events, and everything in between. She prides herself on getting to know each and every student on a one to one basis, no matter their age, ability or confidence level, and working with them in a way that promotes their ability and technique at their own pace. Her lessons are always full of fun and cheer, but saying that, she is known to push her students to their full potential every lesson. Taking the most timid of students, bringing them out of their shells, and helping them to become a safe, confident and technically sound swimmer.

Emma feels she has really flourished since joining Absolute Swimming Academy in 2014, and is happy to be working alongside such a great team. • Martin TaylorOpen or Close

    Experience:

Martin started swimming competitively from age 8, swimming for his local club before moving onto one of the biggest clubs in Scotland. He swam to National level before retiring at the age of 18. Martin then began to volunteer for his local club, progressing through to being their youngest ever Head Coach. After 2 years he was offered the job of Assistant Performance coach with one of the UK’s most successful clubs, coaching and working with some of Great Britain’s current Olympic athletes.

After the London 2012 Olympics, Martin took on a job at another club where he produced his first Scottish National medalist, something of which he is extremely proud of and is one of his biggest highlights to date.

Martin has 10 years of competitive coaching experience and prides himself on being very forward thinking and up to date with all new swimming techniques. He is very organised and expects the same of his swimmers. Martin’s most important philosophy is that all athletes are individual and must be treated as such.

  • Monir KassemOpen or Close

    Experience:

Monir believes that every child deserves the attention and opportunity to become the best that they can be. Believing that coaching is more than just a profession, equally if not more important is the relationship one builds with the swimmer. Monir’s coaching style is focused on developing swimmers through the correct technique and skills implemented at the right stages in their growth. Striving to help his swimmers develop long term, setting them up to achieve targets and prevent injury, Monir’s attention to detail and stroke development led to having the highest level of technical swimmers pushed through his previous club. This is as rewarding as watching his swimmer beat a 9 year National home record, two years in a row in India and two Dutch swimmers who have both ranked in the top 3 at National Level.

Monir was selected to run a National Coaching Clinic in Tanzania hosted by Dar Swim Club and The Tanzanian Swimming Association. This was a fantastic experience to be part of this programme, where he met some great swimmers and coaches. Whilst there, he worked closely with a swimmer who then came to Dubai for training and recently competed in the Rio 2016 Olympics, having continued to work together over the last two years.

  • Emily BignellOpen or Close

    Experience:

Sport has always played a significant role in Emily’s life. Growing up she was the king of girl who liked to try everything; football, netball, rock climbing, rowing… you name it, she took part. However, swimming has always been her passion. At the age of 3 she had her first swimming lessons, and since the first time her feet touched the water, she has never looked back.

At the age of 8 Emily began to compete for Eastbourne Swimming Club. The competitions gave her a great amount of motivation to work hard and succeed, which eventually showed through as she competed at County, Regional and National levels with her main stroke being frontcrawl.

Swimming provided her with the confidence and enthusiasm to compete in other sports, and at the age of 15 became National Biathlon Champion! As well as this, she competed Nationally in Triathlon – an invaluable experience to say the least! These sports gave her a real in sight in to a range of values and skills such as discipline, time management, commitment, teamwork, pursuit of growth, feedback, communication and integrity. All of which have played a part in the person she is today. Without sport throughout her childhood, she wouldn’t be on the path she is today and hopes to inspire and motivate the children she teaches to value sport the same way as her.

In 2014 Emily decided to embark on a new challenge, moving to Dubai to fulfill the role of a PE Teacher, specialising in swim coaching. Working with individuals from the age of 3 up to adults provided her with a vast amount of knowledge as she had to adapt sessions to suit the individuals.

“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work” – this motto has driven Emily to succeed in everything she does, and inspired her to become the best teacher she can be.
